Managing Challenging Interactions Workshop

This Workshop aims to provide participants with the knowledge of why a person might present with distress, become abusive, aggressive or emotional.

In today’s fast-paced and often high-stress environments, challenging interactions are an inevitable part of many workplaces and community settings. Whether you're dealing with distressed clients, emotional conversations, or aggressive behaviours, having the right tools and approach can make all the difference.

This workshop, based on Lifeline’s trusted 'Recognise, Respond, Refer' framework, equips participants with the practical skills needed to effectively navigate and manage these difficult situations.

What will you learn?

Through a combination of evidence-based content, real-life scenarios, and interactive learning, this workshop will empower participants with an understanding of:

  • The underlying causes of distress, emotional outbursts, or aggressive behaviour
  • How personal and unique factors contribute to challenging interactions
  • The psychological and emotional drivers that can influence how people behave under stress

Attendees will also learn how to communicate effectively and compassionately during difficult conversations, apply de-escalation techniques to reduce conflict and tension, and set and maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries. Additionally, participants will develop and implement a self-care plan to support their wellbeing in high-stress environments.
